(dewi)
Probolinggo Vice Mayor Mochammad Soufis Subri officially opened the Regional Work Meeting (Rakerda) of the Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) on Saturday (11/7) morning at the hall of National Unity and Politics Agency (Bakesbangpol). The event was attended by the Chairman of MUI KH Nizar Irsyad, Head of the Ministry of Religious Affairs Mufi Imron Rosyadi, and the Chairman of Muhammadiyah H Masyfu 'and all MUI caretakers.
In his speech, Subri said he was grateful to attend the regional meeting as it was held amid the COVID-19 pandemic which requires health protocols to implement as a joint effort.
"Despite the COVID 19 pandemic, MUI does not stop the implementation of the regional meeting. We hope that MUI can produce working programs that are beneficial to the life of the community, religion, and state of Indonesia in general and Probolinggo city in particular. MUI does not only decide whether it is halal and haram. It’s more than that. MUI can strengthen literacy related to understanding, analyze, and map the risks of social conflict in the city," said Subri.
Subri further explained that the current dynamics of life are very vulnerable to changes in mindset, one of which is radicalism. "MUI is not a government tool, but part of the government. I appeal to this regional meeting, to accommodate young people, millennial children in the management of MUI. It needs to be mixed so that MUI's analytical skills are getting better. Let's keep the spirit of MUI so that it will be more respected for its neutral attitude to fit in all aspects of life," Subri ordered.
Meanwhile, KH Nizar Irsyad revealed that the fifth MUI regional meeting was only held in July because it could not carry out any activities due to COVID-19.
"For this reason, deliberation efforts are needed at each commission, planning programs that will be implemented in the next six months. Invitations that usually reach one hundred people shall be decreased to thirty people, including the head of the commission and its secretary," said Nizar.
The previous MUI regional meeting had always invited MUI administrators in each sub-district, each commission, community leaders, and ulema to discuss their program of activities.
On the other hand, the Head of the Ministry of Religious Affairs Mufi Imron Rosyidi, thanked the Chairman of the MUI to work together to keep the continuity of religion in Probolinggo City guaranteed. (alfien_tr)
