BI: POTENSI DAYA BELI MASYARAKAT CENDERUNG MEMBAIK

2019-2020

(Sonea)

Head of the Probolinggo City’s Statistics Indonesia (BPS) Heri Sulistyo, during a talk show at the Suara Kota Radio FM on Tuesday (15/12), revealed that inflation has been occurred in November 2020, as food, beverage, and tobacco had all experienced inflation by 1.71 percent.

He said, of the 11 expenditure groups, 5 of them experienced the highest inflation, namely the food, beverage, and tobacco group, the housing, water, electricity, and household fuel group, and the household equipment, equipment, and routine maintenance group, the health group, the food supply group, and drinks/restaurants.

"One expenditure group experienced a decline in prices, namely personal care and other services group. The remaining index is for the expenditure group that does not change or remains constant. This includes clothing and footwear group and the transportation group,” he said.

The increase in broiler meat prices became the trigger, in November 2020, causing the inflation rate to rise from 0.15 percent last month to 0.41 percent this month. "Besides, there are other commodities such as shallots and cayenne pepper," said Heri.

Responding to the inflation rate, the Analyst of Bank Indonesia (BI) Malang, Gustian Widyaningrum, who was contacted via telephone, said that the purchasing power potential of the people tends to improve, as, on the national level, it had entered the technical market.

Experiencing inflation for two consecutive months, according to the woman who is familiarly called Dian, could be a signal or potential for improvement of economic growth in Probolinggo city.

In the future, she said, the city administration, in this case, the Regional Inflation Control Team (TPID) of Probolinggo City, must also focus on the moments of religious holidays and the new year, when the potential for an increase that must be watched out for in addition to commodities which are now contributing to inflation, is in terms of transportation such as transportation rates and the imposition of cigarette excise which will impact on the inflation growth rate in the city, in the coming months, while still guided by the 4K policy.

This policy includes anticipating challenges that can affect the price of food or food materials. For example, weather disturbances due to longer droughts and food availability between times and between regions.

"The 4K guidelines, namely Price Affordability, Supply Availability, Smooth Distribution, and Effective Communication, must be maintained so that supplies are also relatively well maintained," she said.

Meanwhile, Regional Secretary of Probolinggo city drg. Ninik Ira Wibawati claims that entering the fourth quarter of 2020, economic activity in the city has begun to increase. Even though the inflation rate had increased from last month, it was still considered safe and quite under control.

"This is not only happening in Probolinggo city, but I think it is in all regions. But so far it is still relatively safe, and quite under control," she said.

Ninik added, amid the current situation of the COVID-19 pandemic, community participation is very important, by maintaining strict health protocols, maintaining distance, washing hands frequently with soap in running water, and wearing masks.

"In fact, the results of the evaluation of the COVID task force meeting last week stated that Operation Yustisi now does not only apply social sanctions or fines. But people who are found to be disobedient will immediately be undergoing a swab test so that they pay close attention to the dangers of this virus at the same time so that there is a deterrent effect," she said.
