(alfien-hamzah)
Physical distancing measures were taken at the Al-Ikhlas Mosque, Probolinggo municipal administration when a Friday prayer was held on Friday (3/27). Besides, health protocols were also applied before worshipers entering the mosque.
One to another, the worshipers went through a body-temperature checking process using a thermal scanner and use a hand sanitizer. Entering the mosque, a simple restrictive point was also provided to arrange Friday prayer distance. Outside the mosque, additional tarps were also provided to anticipate if the mosque's capacity is insufficient.
Before starting Friday prayers, the Assistant for Governance Affairs of Probolinggo City, Paeni, who also acted as the Imam of Friday Prayer again reminded worshipers to remain standing at the point set by the mosque's caretakers.
This effort is following the Circular Letter of the Probolinggo Mayor related to the call for the implementation of Friday prayers in Probolinggo city amid the increasing outbreak of pandemic coronavirus COVID-19.
In the circular letter, it was stated that the mosque which was located in a community environment far from the major roads, national and provincial roads, a number of provisions must be fulfilled if the Friday prayer is still held. This includes folding the carpets, spraying disinfectants, providing hand sanitizers, checking body temperature and the worshipers must bring their own prayer mat. They are also highly urged not to shake hands and set a distance of 1 meter away from each worshiper.
Meanwhile, the mosques located along the major roads including provincial roads with more travelers visiting, the mosque should not hold Friday prayers. It can be replaced by Dzuhur prayers at their respective homes until the conditions declared normal by the government.
Paeni stated that to implement health protocols during the Friday prayers, the government will always try to help the mosque caretakers in terms of fulfilling equipment including thermal scanner and hand sanitizer.
"For several mosques with large capacities, we coordinate with the Agency of Health to assist. Including the Great Mosque of Roudlotul Jannah which is indeed a pilot project in compliance with government policies agreed upon by religious leaders," said Paeni.
Then, what about other mosques which want to hold Friday prayers but cannot fulfill the health protocol? Paeni admitted that he will continue to monitor its progress and make coordination to overcome the problem.
"We will continue to make coordination and monitor. Indeed, we cannot directly fulfill all requests, because right now the goods are scarce. We will find a solution," he explained.
Paeni also said the response of several mosques to comply with this policy was good. Through many reports he received, several mosques along the major roads, where many travelers will visit, have agreed not to hold Friday prayers.
Until now, efforts to stop the spread of the coronavirus COVID-19 continue to be encouraged by the government. With the increasing number of infected patients, several policies have been established to reduce the spread.
"Hopefully public awareness will grow. We must deal with this together, by complying with the protocol policies set by the government. After that, then we will trust, surrender to Allah," concluded Paeni. (alfien_tr)
