Probolinggo city administration has participated in a High-Level Meeting (HLM) video conference and Coordination Meeting of East Java Regional Inflation Control Team (TPID) on Friday (29/5), at the Command Centre, city hall. The meeting was conducted in a theme entitled Synergy of East Java Inflation Control amid COVID-19 Pandemic and Evaluation on Inflation Control Strategy in Ramadhan Month 1441 H.
The meeting was led by East Java Governor Khofifah Indar Parawansa. The video conference was also attended by Regional Secretary drg Ninik Ira Wibawati and related officials. The East Java’s Chamber of Commerce and Industry chairman, Adik Dwi Putranto explained that ahead of Ramadhan month or Eid Al-Fitr, inflation tends to increase as the demand does.
In the last two years, 2019-2020, inflation on the period of Religious and National Holidays is mostly caused by the price of administered price commodity (land transportation and train tariff). Meanwhile, the inflation of volatile food (purebred chicken) remains stable.
According to Adik, in this year, there would be a dynamic of demand as the pandemic accelerates. The recovery process of the COVID-19 pandemic remains uncertain, disrupting the global economy, including the United States of America, Europe, and Asia. This will significantly slow economic growth due to the lockdown of economic activities during the COVID-19 pandemic.
In the meantime, Indonesia’s economic growth in 2020 is 2.97%. “Therefore, it is required to have a government’s policy for economic recovery, developed to revive two sides, demand and supply. This includes maintaining consumption, support the business world, maintain the investment, and supporting export-import activities,” Adik explained.
East Java Province as the motor of Indonesia economy in 2020 with 3.04% economic growth is higher than the national economy, 2.97%; with inflation rate 2.27%, lower than the national economy 2.96%.
Meanwhile, Governor Khofifah explained the social economy policy of East Java provincial government involves securing the marketing process of marketing and distribution of agricultural products, debt restructuring for those affected economic doers, cash-intensive for small economic doers, and social safety net.
After the video conference, Regional Secretary Ninik revealed the harmony of the local working units and related institutions in dealing with the economic situation in Probolinggo city.
“Alhamdulillah (Thank God), we have a cohesive institution, cooperating to inform about the economic strategy in the city. This includes food security, chicken meat inspection, resilient urban village, strengthening of SMEs, and others. And, Probolinggo city has implemented what the governor has instructed,” she said.
